Week 11: 3D Design

I used Tinkercad to make a 3D model of a piano playing scene. I have been learning to play the piano since I was very young. Up to now, playing the piano is my hobby, and also the fun of my stressful life. It allows me to temporarily let go of stress and immerse myself in another world.

Initial Ideas for Final Project:
Sound & Audacity + Nature + Performance
I'm not good at using voice. This might be a good opportunity for me to explore. How to combine sound and performance is a challenge. I have an inspiration that modern people are under too much pressure. Listening to natural sounds can help improve mood and stress. A friend of mine who was suffering from insomnia recently told me that she would play some white noise before going to bed. I'm thinking of recording some natural sounds like rain, wind, ocean waves and editing them together. By listening to this audio, people can escape the stress of reality or help them fall asleep.

Take-aways:
I agree with Peppler that media arts could be described as a “meta-medium” that spans many different types of artistic practices. New media can play in arts learning. Art that makes use of electronic equipment, computation, and new communication technologies comprise the emergent field of “media arts”. Central to most work in new media is the role that computer programming plays, giving artists a fuller range of control over the artwork. Creative coding can be used to create a wide array of genres, including animations, digital stories, music, simulations, and interactive art, etc.

Feedback:
  • Qing: Nice to see your work. I think the idea of combining mahjong and dice is interesting! This is a good try. It's practical and made me wonder how well it was thrown.
  • Min: This decorative ball is so delicate! I think using acrylic is a good choice, which makes it look more transparent and bright. I'm interested in how they fit together. And I'm amazed that they can be assembled into different shapes. This is a nice design!
  • Yiran: The 3D design of planets is amazing! I like that different planets can be placed in different orbits. People can have a basic understanding of the distance between each planet and the sun, which is very educational.
  • Xin: I love your creative design! This opened my eyes to the possibilities of cardboard use. These patterns are so beautiful and they appeal to me. Making cardboard soft is an amazing idea! I'm curious about their connection and arrangement.
  • Xinyi: It is an impressive work! Slots allow planets to stand. This design strikes me as very detailed. These stands are also very interesting and can make the representation of galaxies much higher.
  • Lulu: This Christmas tree ornament caught my attention. I love this! Experimenting with different materials is great because there are some differences between materials. I think the idea of putting names on the works is an ingenious idea. Nice to see your work!
  • Leqi: It's great to see that you documented the process of your production in great detail. This made me understand how this great work was born. I am intrigued by how they are assembled. I love this project!
